BROWNSBURG, Ind. — A new chapter for professional tennis in Indiana came to a close on August 16 as the inaugural Indiana Hardcourt Championships crowned its first champions after a week of competition in Brownsburg.
The ATP Challenger 75 event brought professional players from around the world to the Brownsburg Tennis Complex, while also creating a full week of tennis activities, youth programming and community events around the tournament.
The tournament was designed to give Indiana fans a closer look at the next generation of professional tennis while providing valuable ranking points on the ATP Challenger Tour.
Lloyd Harris claims the singles title
South Africa’s Lloyd Harris emerged as the first singles champion of the Indiana Hardcourt Championships.
The seventh seed defeated American Andre Ilagan in the final, winning 6-2, 7-6 to capture the title in Brownsburg.
Harris’ run included a mix of experienced Challenger-level competition and emerging talent, with Ilagan putting together one of the strongest weeks of the tournament on his way to Championship Sunday.
The final gave the inaugural event a fitting conclusion, with a local American player competing for the title against an established international professional.
Escobar and Poonacha win doubles crown
The doubles title went to Gonzalo Escobar of Ecuador and Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha of India.
The pair defeated Americans Robert Cash and Bart Stevens 6-4, 6-1 in the final. The victory marked another Challenger title for Poonacha, who continued a strong 2026 season on the doubles circuit.
More than a week of matches
The Indiana Hardcourt Championships was positioned as more than just a professional tournament.
The event included a broader Indiana Tennis Week, with youth clinics, community activities, autograph opportunities and other experiences designed to connect professional tennis with local players and families. The tournament also featured affordable general admission and special access opportunities for young fans and students.
For Indiana tennis, the event represented an opportunity to establish a new annual stop on the professional calendar.
The first edition may now be in the books, but Brownsburg has officially added an ATP Challenger tournament to Indiana’s growing list of major sporting events.
