The three-time champion led a career-high 323 laps to snap a long winless streak and strengthen his playoff position.
Joey Logano dominantly returned to Victory Lane Sunday night, winning the Window World 450 at North Wilkesboro Speedway after leading a career-best 323 of 450 laps in NASCAR’s first points race at the historic short track in 30 years.
The victory marked Logano’s first NASCAR Cup Series win since May 2025 and the 38th of his Cup career, moving him into sole possession of 23rd on NASCAR’s all-time wins list.
Driving the No. 22 Team Penske Ford, Logano crossed the finish line 0.859 seconds ahead of championship leader Denny Hamlin after controlling nearly every stage of the race.
Logano Delivers When It Matters Most
Before the race even began, Logano believed he had the car to beat.
“I think we have a fast car,” he said before climbing into the No. 22 Ford.
That confidence proved accurate.
Crew chief Paul Wolfe provided Logano with one of the fastest cars of the season, allowing the three-time Cup champion to dominate the event despite late pressure from Hamlin.
“It’s good to get back into Victory Lane,” Logano said after the race.
“It’s been a tough year. We knew coming into this weekend we had to capitalize on the points.”
The victory also boosted Logano from 17th to 15th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, giving him a much healthier cushion above the playoff cut line with only five races remaining before the postseason.
Hamlin Extends Championship Lead
Although he couldn’t challenge Logano during the closing laps, Denny Hamlin continued his remarkable consistency.
His runner-up finish increased his championship advantage to 68 points over Tyler Reddick, who endured a difficult afternoon after an incident with Alex Bowman.
Hamlin praised Logano’s performance after the race.
“They were really good,” Hamlin said. “There were a lot of times that I felt like my car was really close, but it was just a little bit off.”
Strong Runs Across the Field
Chase Briscoe finished third after briefly leading during the final green-flag pit cycle.
Ty Gibbs recovered from an early pit road speeding penalty to finish fourth, while Shane van Gisbergen completed the top five after leading 49 laps and spending the entire evening near the front.
Defending Brickyard 400 winner Bubba Wallace finished sixth, while Todd Gilliland continued his surprising run through the NASCAR In-Season Challenge by finishing eighth and eliminating Chase Elliott.
Gilliland will now face Ryan Blaney in the championship round of the $1 million In-Season Challenge during this weekend’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Momentum Shifts Toward Indianapolis
The race featured 17 lead changes among nine drivers, but once Logano regained control following the final green-flag pit cycle, no one had enough speed to challenge him.
With momentum now on his side, Logano heads to Indianapolis looking for back-to-back victories as the NASCAR Cup Series prepares for one of its biggest races of the season.
