The Indiana Fever return to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Monday night looking to get back on track as they host the Phoenix Mercury at 8 p.m.
After a quick road trip to Atlanta, Indiana faces an important challenge against a Mercury team that will test both ends of the floor. For the Fever, three key areas could determine the outcome.
First, protecting the basketball remains a major priority. Indiana is averaging 16.4 turnovers per game, one of the highest marks in the WNBA. Limiting mistakes and avoiding easy transition opportunities for Phoenix will be critical.
The second focus is interior defense. The Fever struggled to protect the paint in their recent matchup against Atlanta, allowing 60 points inside. Improving physicality and making opponents work for every basket near the rim will be essential.
Finally, Indiana will need production beyond its star players. While Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, and recently Sophie Cunningham continue to lead the way, contributions from the bench could provide the extra spark needed to secure a victory.
With another home crowd behind them, the Fever will look to tighten up defensively, reduce turnovers, and find balanced scoring as they begin a two-game home series against Phoenix.
