With the 2026 T-Mobile Home Run Derby less than a month away, baseball fans are already looking ahead to one of the most exciting events of All-Star Week. After a memorable 2025 edition that featured several first-time participants, MLB is once again filled with power hitters who could make their Derby debut in Philadelphia on July 13.
Among the names generating the most excitement is Nick Kurtz of the Athletics. The young slugger continues to showcase elite power and would have the added bonus of competing in front of a hometown crowd at Citizens Bank Park, where he grew up attending Phillies games.
Another intriguing candidate is Munetaka Murakami of the White Sox. Despite missing time with a hamstring injury, Murakami has already launched 20 home runs this season and ranks among the league leaders in hard-hit balls and barrel rate, making him a natural fit for the Derby stage.
The Cardinals’ Jordan Walker has also emerged as a strong contender. The 24-year-old owns some of the highest bat-speed and exit-velocity numbers in baseball while enjoying a breakout season at the plate.
Meanwhile, Astros star Yordan Alvarez remains one of the game’s most feared power hitters. With 25 home runs and MVP-caliber production, Alvarez would instantly become one of the favorites if he ever decides to accept a Derby invitation.
Rounding out the list is Yankees slugger Ben Rice, whose breakout campaign has turned him into one of baseball’s biggest surprises. His left-handed power could be especially dangerous at Philadelphia’s hitter-friendly ballpark.
While the official Home Run Derby field has yet to be announced, these five sluggers would bring plenty of excitement and fresh energy to one of baseball’s premier showcases of power.
