CORONADO, Calif. — Corey Heim scored the first NASCAR Cup Series win of his career Sunday, capturing the inaugural race at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego.

The 23XI Racing driver passed teammate Tyler Reddick with just two laps remaining on the 3.4-mile street course, earning a breakthrough victory in only his 13th Cup Series start.

Heim’s win continues a recent NASCAR trend, becoming the second driver in three years to earn a first Cup victory during an inaugural street race, following Shane van Gisbergen’s triumph in Chicago in 2023.

23XI Racing celebrated a strong day with Bubba Wallace finishing second. Reddick, who led late in the race, suffered a flat tire and dropped to 25th place.

Kyle Larson finished third, followed by Zane Smith and AJ Allmendinger.

Meanwhile, pole-sitter Shane van Gisbergen saw his hopes disappear after being collected in a multi-car crash on Lap 32, ultimately finishing 38th.

The NASCAR Cup Series now heads to Sonoma Raceway next weekend for another road-course challenge.
