From the Brickyard 400 presented by PPG at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to the Pennzoil 250 and the TSport 200 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, drivers across NASCAR’s top three national series enter the weekend battling for playoff positions, championship momentum, and, in one case, a $1 million prize.
Ryan Blaney and Todd Gilliland Battle for NASCAR’s $1 Million In-Season Challenge
While Sunday’s Brickyard 400 will crown one of NASCAR’s most prestigious race winners, it will also decide the inaugural NASCAR In-Season Challenge.
The championship matchup features Ryan Blaney, a two-time race winner this season, against Todd Gilliland, who is still searching for his first NASCAR Cup Series victory.
Blaney enters Indianapolis with momentum after winning at Atlanta earlier this month and has climbed back into championship contention by cutting significantly into Denny Hamlin’s points lead over the past five races.
Gilliland, meanwhile, has become the surprise story of the tournament, eliminating higher-seeded drivers—including Chase Elliott—to reach the final.
The winner of Sunday’s challenge will earn a $1 million bonus.
NASCAR Cup Playoff Picture Tightens
Beyond the In-Season Challenge, the battle for the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs continues with only five races remaining before the postseason begins.
Austin Cindric currently occupies the final playoff position, holding a 33-point advantage over Erik Jones.
Defending Brickyard 400 winner Bubba Wallace also returns to Indianapolis looking to strengthen his postseason position after winning last year’s race.
Meanwhile, Kyle Larson, winner of the 2024 Brickyard 400, arrives hoping to snap a lengthy winless streak despite consistently showing speed at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Xfinity Series Drivers Chase Playoff Spots
Saturday’s Pennzoil 250 presented by Take 5 Oil Change will be equally important for the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
Only three regular-season races remain before the playoffs, leaving little room for error.
Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Brent Crews and Taylor Gray currently hold the final playoff spots, while Rajah Caruthand William Sawalich remain within striking distance.
Veteran Justin Allgaier, already locked into the No. 1 playoff seed with six victories this season, returns to one of his favorite tracks looking for another chance to “kiss the bricks.”
JR Motorsports will also receive additional firepower this weekend with NASCAR Cup stars Ross Chastain and Chase Elliott joining its lineup.
Truck Series Playoff Race Heads to IRP
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series opens the weekend Friday night at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, where the playoff bubble couldn’t be any closer.
Stewart Friesen and Tyler Ankrum are currently tied for the final postseason position, with Friesen holding the tiebreaker entering the TSport 200 presented by Warn Industries.
At the front of the standings, defending IRP winner Layne Riggs continues to lead the championship after extending his advantage following last week’s runner-up finish.
Former series champion Ty Majeski, a two-time IRP winner, also returns to one of his strongest tracks looking to gain valuable playoff points.
